We have officially reached the point in the year where all the major paint companies are releasing their pick for Color of the Year 2023. For Sherwin-Williams, that color is Redend Point SW 9081.
According to Sherwin-Williams, Redend Point SW 9081 is “a nourishing and intriguing hue, an inviting neutral inspired by the deep care we feel for our communities, our connections and our crafts. It is subtle, warm and restorative, suitable in commercial or residential spaces where mind and soul can relax and be refreshed.”
So, let’s talk a bit about how you can use this soft and soulful neutral in your home. While neutral, Redend Point certainly has a pinkish hue that resembles sunbaked natural sands or natural clay pottery. Because of this, we think it’s definitely a color that is best incorporated with fabric.
With fabric, you can add some splashes of this color without making a huge commitment. To help you out, we’ve compiled a small collection of fabrics that fall within range of Redend Point and the complementary colors Sherwin-Williams recommends pairing it with.
This palette includes (from top left and around) Andrea (snow), Rizari (coral), Varas (fig), Hambird (rose), Ruche (rose), Raybrook (coral), Folly (black), Poise (soft petal), Linda (driftwd), and Hava (char). In the center, M-Vella (coffee) and E-Roller (wheatberry).
To maintain that earthy feel, or to simply ground the room, we encourage you to add a few items — lamps, rugs, artwork, etc. — that favor the darker, complementary colors within their suggested palette. This will allow Redend Point to remain at the forefront rather than blending in too much.
If you do decide that you want to make a bigger commitment than just using fabric alone, consider painting a small piece of furvniture in this hue. This will allow you to have a unique feature item that will stand out without overpowering the space.
