As winter thaws, it might be a good time to think about giving your home a facelift for spring. Here’s a look at some of the spring home decor trends for 2013.
Patterns
Patterns work all year round, but this year, the focus is on stripes, florals and other nature-inspired prints such as leaves, feathers and birds. And it doesn’t just stop with upholstery fabric. Carry those patterns onto walls, furniture and accents such as bedding, shower curtains, window treatments, lampshades, decorative throw pillows, and even onto floors by way of area rugs. This year, patterns will work anywhere and everywhere, so don’t be afraid to get creative!
Gold & Brass Accents
Gold and brass are making a comeback this year by way of accents. There are many ways in which gold and brass can be incorporated into the home, including, but not limited to, lighting, vases, mirrors, kitchen or bathroom faucets, decorative bowls, hardware and furniture. Paired with the right color scheme, gold and brass can make quite the stunning statement in any room.
Natural Elements
Natural elements such as feathers, furs, stone and wood are popular this year. Keep the feathers and furs as decorative accents, but let the stone and wood be your showstoppers. Exposed elements such as the stone and wood that show off natural grains bring a rustic charm and warmth to the home. Furthermore, when possible, lean toward the non-traditional woods for cabinets and flooring. While cherry and maple woods are beautiful, the top contenders in design these days are alder, birch, oak, walnut and bamboo.
ColorÂ
Pantone may have announced that Emerald is their 2013 color of the year, but green doesn’t have to be your sole focus. Some other colors that are gaining popularity for this season are fun sorbet colors in shades of soft raspberry and creamy orange, as well as citrus schemes including lemon-zesty yellows. Shades of blue falling in between navy and royal are also quite popular this year, which give you extra options.
Statement Lighting
This year is all about large-scale lighting that makes a big impact and a huge statement in a room. Scout out pieces such as chandeliers and over-sized pendants. Lighting like this can be found just about anywhere in unique shapes and in a wide array of colors, including mixes of metals. For tables, swap out older lamps for colorful, glazed ceramic bases with detailed shades or big brass lamps. Anything that makes a statement is in!
