Make a Great First Impression with a Grand Entryway

The entryway sets the tone for the rest of the home and can make or break the first impression. Instead of neglecting it, make it grand by considering these three suggestions.

  1. Create a statement wall. There are a variety of ways that you can create a statement wall in the entryway. A rich, warm color on the wall can give your home a welcoming feel, whether you paint the wall solid or opt for something like gradient stripes. Wallpaper in an exciting pattern can be an eye-catching way to show off a bit of your style and personality. Another way would be to engage your visitors with a display of art in frames of various sizes or a collection of mirrors. If you don’t have space for a display, find one large, great piece of art (or a decorative mirror) and hang it front and center (balance it off with a small table or bench). If you prefer an eclectic look, find some patterned wallpaper or fabric that you love, cut it, frame it and hang it in a way that creates visual interest.
  1. Focus on what’s underfoot. Fix any flooring imperfections or replace it entirely. Carpet isn’t necessarily ideal for entryways, so if you have it, consider changing it out for some tile or hardwood. To draw visitors in, add a runner to the floor. Not only will it protect the floor in that high-traffic area, but you’ll also add a splash of style and color as well. Another option: paint a faux runner on the floor instead. If you have a stairway in your entryway, focus on it as well. Line the staircase with family photos or paint exposed risers (if you have any) in a friendly color. Greenery or something seasonal on the banister is also very welcoming.
  1. Add a piece of furniture. A piece of furniture in the entryway is always a nice touch. A simple table or small footed cabinet not only looks nice, but it also serves as a great place to put something decorative such as a lamp, vase, or candle. If you do use a cabinet, take advantage of that extra storage. Another option would be some seating. Consider adding a chair or a bench. Seating can always come in handy especially if someone needs to take off or put on their shoes in your home. Extra perks would be a chair upholstered in a fun patterned fabric or a bench seat that lifts for extra storage. Be sure to check out our collection of chairs some are ideal for entryways depending on their size.

Whichever you decide is best for your space, be sure to include some overhead lighting to show your hard work off. Additionally, freshen up the front door on the outside for an extra wow!
