DIY Wall Art: Fabric Panels

Diy Wall Art Fabric Panels

When we decorate our homes we often include items to hang on the wall. Wall art however, can be quite costly depending on what you fancy for your home. It doesn’t have to be though. One way to add some sophisticated flair to your walls without costing a fortune is to make fabric panels. Keep reading for step-by-step instructions on how to make your own attractive wall art.

Step 1: Gather your materials

  • Fabric, size of your desired art
  • Staple Gun
  • Canvas Stretchers
  • Foam Core, size of your desired art (optional)

For this project you’ll need fabric, a staple gun and canvas stretchers. It is perfectly fine to pick up wood from the home store but canvas stretchers are very convenient with their mitered corners. They’re also designed to stay straight over time, making them perfect for a project like this. If you choose to stretch your fabric over a foam core rather than over wood you can skip the staple gun. Some glue will probably be enough to hold your fabric in place.

Step 2: Lay out your fabric

In regards to fabric, it is best to stick with something of medium weight. Medium weight fabric works very well for a project such as this. Before you set down the canvas stretchers or foam, position your fabric in the way you want it displayed.

Step 3: Create your wall piece. Enjoy!

Whether you’re using stretchers or foam make sure you cut your fabric to where it’s bigger than the frame. Usually an inch and a half to two inches is a safe bet for ensuring enough to wrap around the edges. Start by putting a staple (or glue) in the center on one of the longer sides and then add a staple to the opposite side. Next, do the same for the shorter sides. Continue to work toward the corners, tugging the fabric tight as you go. When you get to the corners, fold them as you would a gift and staple the fabric into place. If you won’t want to worry about stretching fabric over any edge, simply cut it neatly and stick it to the front of the frame you use. Once your masterpiece is completed hang it with nails or wall putty.
