At one time, rural locations, functional porches, and informal living spaces distinguished a home as farmhouse style. Over the years, however, farmhouse style has evolved into something bigger than anyone probably ever expected. Hallmarks of farmhouse interiors often include painted wood planked walls, mix-matched furnishings, simple details, and a kitchen that is indeed, the heart of the home. Kitchens often feature a blend of open shelves and wood cabinetry.
