Decorating with Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year

For the first time ever, the Pantone Color Institute has named two colors of the year for 2016:

Rose Quartz and Serenity. The soft pink and pale blue hues were not only chosen for their tranquil and welcoming qualities, but also in response to how our culture perceives color. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumers’ increased comfort with using color as a form of expression which includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged,” the company issued in a statement. In other words, colors are no longer stereotyped. Today, all colors can be appreciated by anyone.

If you’re a fan of both colors but aren’t sure how to incorporate them into your home this year, we’ve compiled 4 ideas for you.

1. Lamps

Lamps are an easy way to bring a new color in without making a huge commitment. Dress up your nightstand or entryway table with an updated splash of color. The Apothecary Table Lamp in Placid Blue ($100) and the Ovo Table Lamp in Pale Pink ($140) from Lamps Plus reflect this year’s color picks beautifully.

2. Paint

Ready for a dose of color that requires a bit more time and effort? Paint a wall (or two, or three).

This living room is the perfect example of how refined and grown up a shade of pink like Rose Quartz can be.

Or even a living room with walls of cool blue such as this:

3. Rugs

Rugs are essentially the icing on the cake when it comes to a decorated room.

A good area rug will be an investment, but it’s worth it. This wool Pandora area rug

fits the bill for this year’s Serenity without breaking the bank.

 4. Upholstery

Whether you have a tired yet quality piece that needs a little updating–or simply want to have a new piece custom made– upholstery fabric is a wonderful way to embrace color trends you enjoy. We have quite a few fabric choices that will work well if Rose Quartz and Serenity are colors you want to have in your home. Two beautiful choices are our Lincoln fabric in the color Petal and our Solvent in blue.
