7 Winter Home Décor Trends For 2021-2022

There’s just something about winter decorating. It’s just so…cozy— which, of course, is perfect once those temperatures start to drop. As we start to approach the new season, let’s take a bit of time to look at what trends will help you keep the chill of winter out, and the warmth, in.

7 Winter Home Decor Trends For 2021 2022 Designer Fabrics Katy Texas

1. Cozy Textiles

Wool throws, cashmere, flannel sheets, cotton quilts, and other textiles rich with extra comfort and warmth will be on everyone’s list this year. Not only will these textiles make you feel as though you’re wrapped up in a warm hug, but their textures will take your decor to the next level. In addition to the above-mentioned textiles, expect to see knitted accessories (the chunkier the better) taking the spotlight. And, let’s not forget other textiles like faux fur and sheepskin that can make your floor look, and your feet feel, great.

2. Metallic and Mirrored Surfaces

To cast a lovely shine around the home, consider incorporating accents with metallic surfaces and mirrored details. The mix of finishes and their illuminating quality will add visual interest to the entire space.

3. Warm Wood Elements 7 Winter Home Decor Trends For 2021 2022 Designer Decor Katy Texas Uttermost Bryndle Rustic Wooden Squares

Warm wood elements have been growing in popularity for a few years now, and rightfully so. And while a space with wood finishes and accents looks lovely all year long, the warming effect they bring is especially appreciated in cold weather. Does this mean you have to do major renovations to bring warm wood elements into your home? Absolutely not. In fact, incorporating them is much easier than you think! Something like an art piece made of reclaimed wood or a tree stump side table are perfect examples of how you can add organic elements to your home. Even a simple basket loaded with cut fire logs can give the rustic appeal that’s ideal for winter.

4. Comforting scents

Scent can really affect the feeling we get upon entering a room. This winter, it’s all about scents that support your wellbeing. Whether you choose candles or an essential oil diffuser, seek out scents such as lavender, frankincense, myrrh, and sandalwood, which are peaceful, healing, and perfect for this time of year. If it’s candles you choose, consider non-toxic vegan or soy options that are scented with oils— and vary the sizes around the space for visual interest.

5. Eye-Catching Fireplaces

What better place to be in winter than around a warm, crackling fire? Often a prime focal point, the fireplace can really create the perfect winter ambiance— and that’s where a lot of focus will be this season. To elevate the look of your fireplace, opt for a decorative screen that really showcases your style. Don’t use the fireplace? Go with a candelabra inside rather than the traditional collection of candles. And don’t feel like your fireplace has to only be inside. Deck out your outdoor space with a chimenea or firepit where you can gather ‘round, curl up with a blanket, or even roast some s’mores.

6. Earth Tones

Earth tones are warm and comfortable, adding a sense of coziness to the environment of your home. Not to be confused with “just brown,” earth tones fall along an incredibly broad spectrum of colors you can find in nature, including khaki, clay, wheat, ginger, espresso, pumpkin, cinnamon, burnt orange, gold, honey, terra cotta, auburn, caramel, rust, chocolate, a multitude of green hues, and cool gray-blues. 7. Light-Colored Leather

While leather is a classic that is always in style, this winter it’s all about leather in lighter shades. If you already use leather, consider adding a few lighter leather elements— an ottoman, a wicker basket with a light leather pull, or a soft-colored leather throw pillow.
