Bedroom Easy Makeover

8 Easy Ways to Turn Your Bedroom into Comfortable and Stylish Sanctuary.

Considering the bedroom isn’t a room regularly seen by guests, it’s no surprise that it often gets left out of the home decorating plans. With that said, you will spend one-third of your life sleeping in it, so why not customize it to suit your style? Here are some simple tips on how to make your bedroom a comfortable sanctuary where sleeping is pleasurable and waking up is exciting.

Remove the unnecessary. Paring down your bedroom to the bare essentials can make it look and feel much more relaxing. In other words, remove the clutter. If there are pieces of furniture or other items that aren’t needed, let them go, so you have space to rearrange what you need to keep. Try consigning them to make save time and make extra cash for your other update. Alternatively, you can repurpose them in another room, or donate them to a great cause! If you’re starting from scratch, look at it like this: if there are fewer furnishings to buy, it gives you the opportunity to invest in higher-quality pieces. Remember, the purpose is to create a space that encourages sleep and rejuvenation. Removing unnecessary items will allow you to do just that.

Choose calming colors. Color affects our moods in more ways than we probably realize, so keep that in mind when the time comes to paint your bedroom. Everyone has their perception of what feels relaxing, so take the time to focus on a variety of colors and pay careful attention to the ones that put you at ease. In most cases, lighter colors tend to come across as fresh and tranquil. However, darker neutrals, like charcoal gray can be just as soothing. If neutrals don’t do it for you, other colors most people find relaxing are pale greens, blues, and purples.

Layer in a variety of textures. A variety of different textures are a wonderful way to feed both your sense of touch and sense of sight. Without texture, a room can look and feel cold and hard, rather than warm and welcoming. Woven window treatments, fabric lampshades, chunky textiles, and natural architectural elements such as exposed brick and wooden beams are some great ways to enhance the textural aspect of your bedroom.

Create an amazing headboard. Not only will an upholstered headboard make a nice focal point, but it will also be much more comfortable to rest your head against. With so many styles of headboards and fabrics available, you’re sure to find exactly what you want. We have a variety of headboard styles that can be custom made to fit any design style.

Soften the lighting. A bedroom should be a soothing place that helps you fall asleep faster. To ensure that happens, focus on ways to soften the lighting. Install dimmer switches that will allow you to control the light in your room or, at the very least, ditch the overhead light altogether, using only lamps or sconces instead. To minimize outdoor lights that can disrupt your sleep, consider hanging blackout liners on draperies.

Use your favorite fabric as the starting point. It doesn’t matter if it’s a certain color, texture or pattern, hone in on what you love the most and then build from there. Try to stick with the rule of three: one large pattern, one medium and one small. Incorporating a solid fabric for the small pattern is also an option that will bring great results. If your space can handle it, consider adding an accent fabric. When used sparingly, an accent fabric can give you a little extra punch. Add it to something simple like a pillow or throw. This could be your solid color piece if you decided to keep three patterns.

Make the entire room your canvas, not just the bed. You can dress up the bed, but don’t forget the other areas of the room. Be sure to spread your fabrics throughout, to tie the whole room together and create harmony.

Change with the seasons. This may not be ideal for everyone, but it’s a good way to preserve the life of your fabrics and keep the room exciting all-year round. Deck the room in cool-colored fabrics for spring and summer and then swap them out for a warmer palette during the fall and winter months.
