Add to Your Living Space With the Outdoors:
While decorating the inside of your home is important, the outdoor living space is important as well. During the warm months, an outdoor living space allows you to entertain friends and family, while enjoying the beautiful weather. Whether you have an open deck with just enough room for a table and chairs, a spacious enclosed porch, or something different altogether, there are ways you can make the area special and aesthetically pleasing.
Ensure you have quality hardscaping
Hardscaping is essentially the inanimate objects in your yard: patios, decks, gazebos, stone wall, walkways, and any other object that will be the foundation to your outdoor furnishings. It’s important to that your hardscapes are sturdy and safe, which is why investing in quality products, is a good idea. If you already have these things, touch them up with a fresh coat of paint or give them a good scrub with soap and water.
Arrange areas where people can socialize
Think about how you have your living room arranged and bring some of those ideas outside. If you have a good amount of outdoor furniture, set up areas where people can sit and talk. A great place to arrange seating is around a focal point such as a flower garden or a fire pit.
Light up the space
Lighting is just as important outdoors as it is indoors, although sometimes, it can be challenging. A great way to bring light in is by using string lights. String them up wherever you can, including areas such as the top of the deck and around trees. Hurricane candles, outdoor lamps, tiki torches, and solar-powered lights are also great ways to incorporate soft glows throughout the yard.
Add durable, yet comfortable furniture
Outdoor furniture just isn’t what it used to be, and in this case, that’s a good thing. A lot of outdoor pieces look as though they could belong indoors, so it probably won’t be hard to find something you love. With that said, when you do go out shopping, look for plump comfortable cushions that will stand the test of time. Most sofas and chairs are made with weather resistant materials and drainable cushions. Should you already have a set that’s in good shape, but in need of an update, reupholster it! It’s much easier than you think and the great thing is that you can hand select the perfect fabric that truly reflects your personality and style.
Incorporate accessories
Accessories can range from potted plants and flowers to all-weather artwork and even vases or bowls. If you have tabletops, enclosed wall space, or a fence, take advantage of those areas and add accessories to finish off your space.
