How to Stylishly Decorate With Faux Florals

A beautiful floral arrangement or a few green plants scattered about can really add freshness, color, and texture to a home. In fact, florals and plants are the one decorating trend that will never go out of style. But let’s face it, they take work. Fortunately, there are several low-maintenance plants that can easily be incorporated into your decor (well, unless you have a total black thumb) — but flowers? Well, that’s a different story entirely.

Fresh flowers are no doubt lovely— and while the idea of having unlimited access to them sounds nice, keeping them in your home on a regular basis is impractical and costly. Faux flowers, on the other hand, are a wonderful alternative that can be both affordable and stylish.

Honestly, up until the last decade or so, artificial flowers (and plants, for that matter) never looked worthy enough to be a permanent fixture in a home. That’s not the case anymore! The faux flowers and plants of today look so realistic that they have most certainly earned a place in home decor.

Tips for Fabulous-Looking Faux Florals

Even though faux florals have come a long way, there are still some valid tips and tricks to ensure they look their best.

Shop Early and Take Advantage of Sales

You’ve probably noticed that seasonal items always hit the shelves before the actual season arrives. The same goes for faux flowers and greenery. To make sure you get the best of the best, keep an eye out and make your purchases early when seasonal items first become available.

In regards to sales, don’t hesitate! Even though you can get some great discount designer florals, it doesn’t hurt to grab them while they’re on special. In most cases, you’ll see that happen as the season comes to a close, which can be great if you love to buy items for the following year in advance.

Avoid Stems That Look Shiny and Waxy

When it comes to decorating with faux florals and greenery, the goal is to make them appear as natural as possible. That’s really hard to do if the items you buy have those super shiny and waxy looking stems. Of course, you’ll likely pay slightly more for more realistic looking stems, but it’ll be worth it in the long run. If you happen to catch it on sale, even better!

Do a Practice Run Before You Buy

If you’re buying the florals and piecing the arrangement(s) together yourself, make sure to create a practice bouquet in the store first. The goal is to make sure the flowers you are combining look harmonious, which means you’ve got to check the stems. If they aren’t even remotely similar in color and/or texture, then it’s unlikely your arrangement will look as incredible as you’d like. If you’re buying a premade designer arrangement, then you won’t need to worry about something like this, as the work has been done for you.

Embrace the Season

As mentioned earlier, flowers tend to change with the season, so don’t be afraid to mix up your arrangements to suit. Taking a little time to search out what florals are in season during certain times of the year and building your designs around that inspiration, will only make your arrangements look more natural inside your home.
