When we start planning a room for a son or daughter, our minds often gravitate towards thoughts of pink and blue. Both colors, although very cliche and “safeâ€, work in a pinch when we just don’t know what else to go with. And that’s okay. Thankfully though, there are other colors that exist in the world. Many of which, when brought together (or used separately), can reflect the brightness and uniqueness of your child.
Turquoise & Chocolate Brown
The great thing about this color combination is that it’s gender-neutral. Boys and girls alike can feel comfortable in a space decked out in these two beautiful shades. To make it a bit more gender-specific, incorporate a third color such as pink, orange, lime green, tan or cream.
Red, White & Blue
Again, this is another combination that will work nicely for a boy or a girl. While the color combo is beautiful left in traditional form, you don’t have to stick with that. Red, white and blue comes in various tints, shades and tones, making it easy to achieve multiple looks.
Neutral & ______
Many people underestimate the power of neutrals. Furthermore, many don’t realize that neutrals aren’t limited to white, cream or tan. Neutrals can be grays, blues and even earth tones, which broadens our decorating horizons. And let’s not forget that neutrals make it easy to incorporate any other color into the scheme. If your child has a single favorite color, use it along side a neutral.
Orange, Gray & White
This is predominately a masculine color combination that can easily grow with your child well into his teen years because it’s fun and sophisticated. Have a little girl who loves orange? No problem! Pair it with colors like lemon yellow, lime green, raspberry pink, aqua blue or purple and white.
Black & White
Initially, this color scheme might not come across as a popular choice for kids. White seems to be an invitation for dirt and black just seems to be too dark of a choice for those cheery little ones. However, sticking with easy-to-clean paint and washable fabrics makes the thought of white a bit more bearable and black can actually make a great backdrop for other bright and bold colors and patterns. This combo also allows for other colors to be incorporated, making it a really nice choice.
