Temperatures are dropping, which means fall is making it’s way here. Have you given much thought to your fall home decor? What about color schemes? While orange is considered fall’s signature color, there are other modern and sophisticated to bring fall in with other hues. Here’s a brief look into how fall color schemes can work to make home feel ultra cozy for the fall months ahead.
Soothing Scheme
If you want a soothing feel, look for colors that have a gray undertone. Colors that mimic wheat, flaxseed, or a golden pear, will definitely blend nicely together for a soothing effect.
Earthy Scheme
To have the room grounded, look for rich earthy colors. Shades like taupe and sienna, blended with a color reflecting of stone, are the way to go. The pop of red adds a bit of life to the overall serene feel.
Modern Scheme
Who said pumpkin orange was the only way to bring a fall feel into the home? It doesn’t really matter though, since that’s no longer the case. An updated and modern fall scheme will be full of drama. A rich wine color paired with soft gray and soft gold is a great way to incorporate a new fall vibe within your home.
Cool Scheme
To have a cool and refined color scheme, shoot for fall hues that range from dark to light, with a pop of color in between. For example you could use a dark brown that verges on the color of espresso and a soft green with gray undertone paired with a medium dusty gold.
Warm Scheme
For a feeling of comfort and warmth, think pumpkin pie and piece together a three-color scheme that evokes it. Perhaps a light, almost translucent tan to represent the crust, a warm pumpkin or nutmeg color and then a gray tone to balance the two. It will look just as delicious as it sounds.
But Don’t Forget…
As always, there are standard colors that will always work together. Colors such as the ones listed below should not be overlooked:
- Shades of red paired with khaki neutral
- Pale peach paired with citrus orange and topped with pops of lime green
- Cream (buttercream) and pumpkin orange
- Slate blue blended with a light shade of purple

- Soft rose teamed with either bold salmon or chocolate brown
- Charcoal gray and teal blue with accents of white
