A new year is here, which of course means new decorating trends!
While there are several trends on the forecast, we’ve compiled a list of our favorites that look the most promising.
Brass Accents
While there were murmurs of brass accents a few years ago, brushed silver still proved to be a favorite. Lately, however, people have been gravitating more toward those golden brass tones that are warm and subtle. With the abundance of beautiful designs available, it’s easy to see that the brass of today is nothing like the outdated brass we remember.
Velvet
Velvet is making a serious comeback this year, largely in part to the surge of bohemian design. For maximum effect, go big with a sofa covered in velvet upholstery. Or, simply save it for smaller like accent pillows or floor-to-ceiling drapes. Even if the trend doesn’t last long, it’s still worth finding some area of your home to enhance with this rich and classy fabric.
Geometric patterns
Geometrics are always popular, but for this year, the primary focus will be on circles. Accent pillows, wallpaper, backsplashes–there’s really nothing you can’t throw a circle pattern on!
Typography
The typography trend appears to be full steam ahead for 2018. Go ahead and buy those pillows with words or framed art with sayings such as “EAT”–the enjoyment of these delightful touches don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Fringe
A well-thought-out design includes details. This year, that decorative detail will be fringe! Accent pillows, throw blankets, footstools, ottomans, curtains, and even lampshades can get in on the fun!
Black and White
This classic, high-contrast color combo is ready to take center stage in the upcoming year. A beautiful pairing of black and white is sure to add visual interest to any space while inspiring a sense of balance within your decor.
Natural Materials
The use of natural materials in home decorating has been on the rise for several years now and will continue to do so in 2018. Wood, in particular, will be one of the most prominent elements this year, popping up in unexpected places like ceilings and as accent walls. Other materials to be on the lookout for include bone, shells, lava rock, brick, and stone.
Strong colors
Just by looking at Pantone’s Color of the Year, Ultra Violet, it’s easy to see we’re starting the year off a very colorful foot! In years past, most people gravitated toward cool colors and neutrals. Neutrals are still in but opt for warmer, more intense hues to accent them. It doesn’t matter if you stick with pops of color or go all in, just make sure you go with hardier shades.
