Winter is almost here, which means it’ll soon be time to start decorating for the holidays. It doesn’t matter if you’re an extravagant or a minimalist a novice or seasoned pro having new ideas for Christmas decorating are always welcome. Here are five ideas that just might inspire you to try something new this year.

#1: Deck out your door

The door is generally the first thing seen upon arrival to the house and festive decorations will make it all the more welcoming. In regards to decorations, there are many ways to dress up the front door, but sticking with the classics are foolproof. Garland wrapped in twinkling lights, or an evergreen wreath accented with colorful ribbon, are two easy ways to announce that you’re ready for all the season brings.

#2: Personalize with fabric

While it’s easy to buy holiday decor from the department store, it’s much more special when it comes from your own hands (or the hands of others). Instead of buying something off the shelf, consider making your own decor items. Often times, items such as placemats, table runners, accent pillows and even tree skirts, can be made quickly and easily. Don’t have the time or can’t use a needle? Pick the fabric and have what you want made by someone else. Or, search online for some easy no-sew projects.

#3: Top off your table

A centerpiece fit for the season is a great way to add some flair to an area of your home. Candles holders or holiday-colored vases make wonderful beginnings for centerpieces. Accent the bases of either with garland, incorporate some flowers or berries and you’ve got yourself something unique and lovely for your dining room table.

#4: Garnish with greenery

Each season opens the door for decorating with lots of natural elements in their own way. For Christmas, this usually means lots and lots of greenery. To be specific garland. Garland can be wrapped around pretty much anything; so don’t feel limited to the fireplace mantle. Wrap garland around the staircase banister or around the backs of dining room chairs. To make it extra nice, wrap some twinkling lights through it.

#5: Change your color scheme

Changing up your home’s color scheme doesn’t have to give you a headache. It’s not necessary to repaint everything just because it’s winter. Instead, swap out items like accent pillows and throws, rugs, window treatments and bedding. Little changes such as this can still make it feel like a completely different season that before.
