Summer is officially here, which means it’s time to talk about what’s trending this season in home decor. Normally, I’m not one to rush head-on into new trends, but from what I’ve seen so far, there are actually quite a few worthy of an embrace. Here are 5 of my favorites.
Blues
Blue is a classic color for a reason, so it’s no surprise that different variations of it show up on pretty much every season’s color forecast. Blues mix well with so many other colors–there’s really no shortage on what you can do with it. If you aren’t sure what shade of blue to choose, opt for navy, which is a standard among all the other shades out there. Pantone’s Sailor Blue is very close to navy, but if you’re looking for something softer, check out Little Boy Blue–a subdued, but fresh shade that’s perfect for summer.
Ice Cream Colors
This summer, think about gelato (or sherbet) and then use it as inspiration for your decor. Ice cream colors are very hot this year and they’ll make your home look so, so cool. It really doesn’t matter if you pick a single color to showcase or create the perfect palette with a few. Pinks, purples, and peachy hues aren’t for the faint at heart, so it’s up to you if you keep it small or go big. These colors are fun no matter how you use them.
Foliage
In addition to fitting with the season, houseplants offer a variety of health benefits. This year, stop by your local garden center and stock up on some foliage. Plants come in a variety of sizes so they can be used in each room of your house. Opt for decorative, colorful pots for the floor corners, tables, and shelves, and hanging pots in areas where you don’t have a lot of flat surfaces available.
Linen
Linen is an extremely popular fabric, and rightfully so. This natural fiber is not only eco-friendly, it has longevity and even healing properties. Additionally, it helps regulate body temperature in both summer and winter, meaning it’s a fabric that should be embraced year-round.
Tropical Patterns
Tropical-themed patterns rich with bright colors is not only happy but festive as well. The great thing about anything donning colorful, oversized leaves is that it will work both inside and out. Layer in other colored, solid fabrics in darker shades to offset the brilliantly bold prints. It’s summer–can you really go wrong with a tropical paradise?
By all means, take time to relax and recharge. Enjoy your time in the sun. But please, don’t forget to splash a little summer fun throughout your home.
