5 Home Decorating Trends to Drool Over in 2020

As we inch closer to the end of 2019, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming year. For us at Cutting Corners, it means taking time to focus on home decorating trends. We all know that certain trends can be tricky as they are always changing and evolving. Even still, it doesn’t make them any less exciting to follow and even incorporate into our home. And, considering they change and evolve at different paces, some trends are with us for several years, rather than just a season. So, what does home decor have in store for us in 2020, what are the decorating trends for 2020? Let’s take a look at 5 of our favorites.

1. Muted Neutrals

Let’s face it: neutrals are here to stay. In the upcoming year, however, the focus will be on muted neutrals. When we talk about muted colors, it simply means that the intensity (brightness) or saturation of the hue has been reduced. In other words, muted colors are calmer. For example, white becomes cream, brown becomes taupe, black becomes gray, etc. Remember, though, that even colors such as blue and green can be considered neutrals, so don’t feel as though your palette is limited.

2. Gold Accents

Metallics have been popular in home decor for a while now, however, stainless, chrome, and nickel have been the top contenders. In 2020, expect to see gold shoulder its way to the top. While gold in itself is nothing new, how it’s being used in home decor, is.

3. Geometric Design

Although geometrics never really go out of style, their popularity does seem to ebb and flow. From wallpaper to lighting and furnishings to accents, it’s safe to say that there’s a bit of a love affair with geometrics. And rightfully so. Geometrics offer clean lines and style–both of which are worth adding to any home interior. Just be sure not to over do it. As cool and classy as geometrics are, they look best with used tastefully.

4. Statement Lighting

Lighting does much more than illuminate dark spaces. The right lighting can affect the spatial aspect of a room, soften or darken the color palette, highlight architectural features, set a mood, and increase ambiance. And that’s exactly what more and more homeowners are realizing. So much in fact, that light fixtures are often picked just as much for their style as they are for their functionality. 5. Luxe Headboards

We probably spend more time in the bedroom than any other room in the house. Because of this, it’s really important not to skimp on things that will turn that space into a relaxing sanctuary. And that’s where an upholstered headboard comes in. Not only do upholstered headboards come in a variety of shapes, but they also come in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures–especially if you have one custom-made.
