4 Ways to Use Accent Furniture to Make a Statement in Your Home

4 Ways to Use Accent Furniture to Make a Statement in Your Home Plano Fabric and Furniture StoreAlmost everyone dreams of owning a home. And once that dream becomes a reality, time and effort are put into making the house look beautiful. So what is it that makes some homes more attractive and stand apart from others? While there are many things that can make your home unique, oftentimes, it’s as simple as the accent furniture you choose to display.

What is Accent Furniture?

Accent furniture is anything that stands out against the rest of the space’s decor or style. While not the main focus of the room, accent furniture still makes a statement. In fact, the term comes from the meaning of the word “accent,” which is to stress or emphasize. For example, if a colorful chair sits among a primarily neutral living room, then the chair would be considered the accent furniture.

Typically, accent pieces are much smaller in size than a room’s main furniture and are most commonly tables and chairs. However, benches, stools, and entryway pieces can also be great choices for accent furniture.

Without accent furniture, a room risks looking plain and boring. But with it, a home can look complete, warm, and full of character.

Using Accent Furniture in Your Home

As mentioned earlier, there are more items these days that can make really great accent furniture. Not only does that make it easier to track something down, but it also means there are more ways you can use accent furniture in your home.

Entryway pieces for a memorable first impression

The entryway really sets the tone for the rest of your home. Because of this, it’s a good idea to incorporate a piece of accent furniture such as a decorative table or chest with a strong color or a unique shape.

Small tables are smart choices

Small tables are an easy way to use accent pieces in your home and can be used from living rooms to bedrooms. Oftentimes, small tables can be found in all sorts of unique colors, styles, and finishes. While many accent tables can be bought new, that’s hardly your only option. Antique stores, flea markets, and cute little furniture boutiques are just some of the other locations where you can find vintage, handcrafted, or upcycled pieces that are one-of-a-kind. Really, the choices are seemingly endless. Whatever you choose, however, just make sure the table will draw some attention.

Think large and eye-catching

While small tables are nice, so are large and imposing pieces. What better way to make a statement than by displaying an eye-catching piece like an armoire, china cabinet, or a large folding screen. Make sure the piece you choose complements the rest of the room’s decor. If the space is busy, opt for something less intricate and colorful. If the room is muted, however, go for something tall and incredibly detailed.

A chair can do wonders

Chairs (or ottomans) make wonderful accent pieces. When shopping for one, be sure to look for one that will be noticed by its striking color, strong profile, and/or gorgeous upholstery. If you already own a chair that you love but don’t consider it a prime accent piece, consider having it updated with a new fabric. If you need an accent chair, and can’t find one in a furniture store, you might want to have one custom made so it suits your style in every possible way. To really make a statement, consider mixing two very different styles, such as a modern chair blended with primarily traditional furniture.
