Here are some tips and tricks on how to use fabric table coverings to enhance the next special occasion you host in your home.

Table Runners are very simple to make and leave you with many options. A finished runner ranges from 18 -27 inches wide, which means most runners can be made with one width of fabric (usually 54 inches wide).

To determine the ideal runner width, look at your table. If it’s narrow, the runner should be closer to the 18-inch size. For wider tables, the 26-27 inch width will work best. You’ll also need to determine the runner length. For best results, you want it to fall short of someone’s lap, which would generally hang no more than 10-12 inches over each end of the table. A shorter runner is acceptable if you are planning to use placements. For more drama however, skip the placemats altogether and add shorter, perpendicular runners to mark each place at the table.
