Creating a Bedroom Oasis

Whether you use your room as a retreat, or for sleeping only, a lot of time is spent in there. Your bedroom should be the one place where you don’t have to worry about what guests might think. It is your own personal space for the ultimate relaxation. That doesn’t mean you have to overhaul your bedroom, but there are ways you can make it more inviting.

Freshen up your bed. A good mattress, a beautiful bedspread and accent pillows can make a world of difference when it comes to a relaxing bedroom, so make this your starting point. There’s nothing wrong with buying a bedding collection set from a department store, but if you really want something that reflects who you are, visit your local fabric supplier.

A good fabric store will give you endless possibilities, which will allow you to get exactly what you want, when it comes to bedspreads and pillows. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could buy fabric to make an upholstered headboard.

Dress up your windows. Window treatments are a great way to enhance your windows. During the day, they can be opened to let the sun in, and at night, they can be closed to give you the privacy you need. Again, you can buy window treatments from the department store, but you can custom make them with your own handpicked fabric. Furthermore, you can add fabric trim, like tassels, to the top or the base to really give your room some extra punch.

Cover your walls with color. Since your bedroom is to be an oasis, it would be best to pick a color that you can handle looking at for a long time. Granted, you might do more time sleeping in there than you do staying awake, but a new color transformation might make you want to spend more time in there. Bold colors might make it hard to settle down for sleep, so think about painting the walls in something soft or neutral.

Remove unnecessary clutter. Once you’ve finished creating your bedroom oasis, avoid letting clutter pile up. This is supposed to be a retreat, and unnecessary messes might make you feel more on edge. A clean space, with your personality encompassed throughout, should give you the bedroom oasis you’ve always wanted.
